A Warm Welcome to the Grand View Community!

I would like to extend a warm welcome to all of our families, including the families from the Deer Ridge area coming in September 2012.  Grand View is a fantastic school, with amazing students, in a wonderful, caring community!

Our school motto is "Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Do the Right Thing."

We are the Grand View HAWKS!

(Helping, Attitude, Work Ethic, Kindness, Smart Choices)

One of our goals is that each student be recognized at least once throughout the year at one of our monthly HAWKS Assemblies.

On an academic level, staff members are diligent in analyzing school data and looking at the strengths and needs of the students at Grand View.  Our teachers attend professional development activities on a regular basis and work hard to broaden their knowledge base and refine their instructional practice. Teamwork and collaboration are the underlying philosophies that our staff believe in and live daily.

We are a very busy school, providing many academic and extracurricular activities.  The enthusiasm shown by our teachers in running these intramural sports and clubs is invaluable.  Some examples are the Oktoberfest celebration, Christmas lunch, Fun Fair; as well as a multitude of special activity clubs (Chess Club, Games Club, Craft Club) and a variety of extra-curricular sports (Floor Hockey, Basketball, Flag Football, Kilometre Club, Soccer) and the list goes on.

From an information technology perspective, we have a fully implemented iBook program, two Smart Boards and have recently added some new Data Projectors.

Our school starts at 8:50 a.m. and the end of the day is 3:10 p.m.  Our first break is from 10:42 to 11:22 and the second break, where children can go home, is from 1:15 to 1:55.  Kindergarten is currently offered on a full-day, alternate day schedule.  In September 2012, Grand View will be one of the school sites providing All-Day (full-day, everyday) Kindergarten for both JK and SK students.

Please remember not to bring peanut or nut products to school due to the life-threatening allergies of some students.

We offer a Pita Pit lunch for students every Tuesday, Gateway Gourmet hot lunch on Wednesdays, and Pizza Lunch on Thursdays.  Milk can be ordered on a daily basis.

Breakfast Club runs every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at the nearby Church of the Nazarene.  This is a great opportunity for students to socialize, make friends and, at the same time, eat a wholesome and nutritious breakfast before going to school.  By the way, next time you're picking up groceries at Zehrs, remember to keep your receipt.  By donating your Zehrs tapes to the school, you add up the savings for our Breakfast Club program!

I feel very fortunate to be part of your community and enjoy connecting with you through school events.  Families are welcome to attend all our events and we openly invite you to our HAWKS Assemblies or to join us at School Council meetings.  Together we will continue to work cooperatively to help your children be the best they can be.

Thank you for supporting us and contributing to Grand View's spirit!
Grand View is a great place to be!
